Uplift Program

Our Uplift Program offers limited help with clothing, household items, and utilities.

We know that sometimes you need more than just food. Our Uplift Program begins with a one-on-one conversation to understand your needs. Many times it is food and clothing. Other times, it's more complex. We are here to build relationships and help break the cycle of poverty.

We strive to be good stewards of what God has given us and desire to live out the biblical mandate to care for our neighbors (1 Timothy 6:18) who are experiencing trouble securing the necessities of life. If you're in need, please get in touch with us.

How does it work?

Here are some things you need to know.

  • We assist clients of Caring Hands. Not a client? No worries. We'll help you navigate that process.

  • Requests can take a couple of weeks to process. If you need emergency assistance, contact United Way (call 211) to find other resources in your area.

  • We directly pay companies/agencies to whom funds are owed.

  • We aren't able to accommodate every request for assistance.

  • We share the names and amount of support given with partner churches that support us financially.

Am I eligible?

Our Uplift Program is available to people living in the Southeast Polk and Bondurant school districts, as well as residents of Pleasant Hill. You must fully complete the application process and demonstrate that you have a legitimate financial need. Participation in a local, state, or federal assistance program neither qualifies or disqualifies you from receiving assistance.

If you live outside the school districts listed above, please contact United Way (call 211) to find resources in your area.

How do I apply?

Click here for an Uplift Program application. Once you have completed the application, our staff will contact you. If you need assistance, please contact our Uplift Coordinator at (515) 967-4533 x3 to schedule an appointment.

Simple Supper

Simple Supper is a community-wide invitation to fellowship around a delicious meal each month. Everyone is welcome, and there's no need to RSVP. Dine-in and carry-out options are both available.

Our next supper is Monday, April 29 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Adventure Life Church: 1700 8th St SW, Altoona. The folks from Rising Sun Church of Christ will be serving cavatelli, salad, garlic bread, and bars.

Dine-in service begins at 5:30. Those who prefer to carry-out will be served at 6:00 pm.

If you know someone who would be blessed by a hot meal and some friendly faces, please invite them to join us!
