Volunteer Spotlight - Sherri Street

We couldn’t exist without our volunteers. They faithfully serve their neighbors at our food pantries and thrift store in various ways, demonstrating love and compassion in all they do. Meet one of these volunteers, Sherri Street.

How long have you been volunteering at Caring Hands?

Since June 2021

What is your church home?

Woodland Hills Church of Christ

What inspired you to serve at Caring Hands?

David Burrier visited our church and talked about Caring Hands. I made a trip over to the old Secondhand Treasures store and spoke to Windy about volunteering and was very impressed with their friendliness and the fact I could start anytime and stay as long or as little time as I wanted.

What do you typically do when you volunteer?

I do several jobs, including entering all the volunteer hours and donations online. When I’m done with that, I usually cashier in the store and help in the back sorting and pricing if they need me there. There are a lot of Saturdays I come in to cashier.

Tell us about a time you were blessed by your work as a volunteer at Caring Hands.

During August, when we had our clothing sales, it was great to see the families come and get school clothes for their kids. But I have to say I am blessed every day I’m there by the customers and the great people I work with.

What do you wish people knew about Caring Hands?

I wish everyone knew about Caring Hands, and then I wish they would tell more people about Caring Hands!

Tell us one fun fact about you.

I love people and being around people, but I could easily hole up in my house as long as the electricity stays on and sew and quilt.
